IIT JEE Mains has been one of the toughest entrance examinations in the country ever since the inception of the premier institutes of technology. To crack this examination and get a good rank, one needs to follow a systematic preparation plan. Under this plan an aspirant needs to be thorough with topics in all subjects, with special emphasis on certain topics. Here is the list of topics that need to be given special attention:

**Physics**

**Absolutely essential topics-**Rotational motion, current electricity, magnetic effect of current and magnetism, Newton’s laws of motion, Electrostatics, atoms and nuclei**Should be done topics**– Thermodynamics, Work power and energy, Solids and liquids, EM Waves, Kinematics, Optics, electronic devices**As per availability of time**– AC, Dual nature of matter and radiation, gravitation, KTG, physics and measurement

**Absolutely essential topics-**Probability, conic sections, Vector algebra, Sets relation and function, straight line, matrices and determinants, Trigonometry, integrals**Should be done topics**– Continuity and derivability, Permutations and Combinations, Limits, Quadratic Equations, Circles, Binomial theorem, Differential equations, sequences and series**As per availability of time-**Applications of derivatives, heights and distances, statistics, mathematical reasoning, mathematical induction, applications of integrals

**Chemistry**

**Absolutely essential topics-**Chemical kinetics, transition elements, S-block elements, basic principles of organic chemistry, chemical bonding, thermodynamics, P-block, coordination compounds**Should be done topics**– Biomolecules, electrochemistry, atomic structure, polymer, solid state, periodic table, some basic concepts in chemistry**As per availability of time-**Environmental chemistry, surface chemistry, metallurgy, chemistry in everyday life, states of matter, hydrocarbons, hydrogen, purification of compounds

Though you can see a list of all the major topics above, experts have still warned aspirants to consider all topics important. This is because the paper pattern in JEE 2017 Mains is going to be different than previous years, as is the case every year. It can either be very easy or extremely difficult.

Now let us discuss the weightages of different topics as expected in the final exam:

**Physics**

The following are the most basic topics in Physics. You can expect a minimum of 1 question from these topics:

Then there are topics which are necessary to be studied **at least once**. These topics have a large number of formulae and so flash cards must be created to revise the same. 3-4 questions can be expected from the following topics:

**Top tip**: In comparison to JEE Main, JEE Advanced has slightly different syllabus requirements. Therefore students must ensure they study all topics and not do selective study. Logically speaking, once they qualify the Mains, students will not have to spend extra time studying more topics.

**Maths**

The following topics can be considered as **fundamental** to JEE mains 2017 preparation:

With a rock solid grasp on fundamentals, you can make life easy for yourself during preparation for 2017 IIT JEE Mains.

- Carbonyl compounds and derivatives
- Chemical bonding and periodic table- It is the most important topic for JEE preparation. If you master this, it will be of help for many years to come
