Joint entrance examination or JEE Mains is one of the most sought after examination by the students after class 12th. The students who have keen interest in engineering or architecture are the ones who eagerly wait for this examination. The governing body for JEE Mains is central board of secondary education (CBSE) that makes all the conduct of examination possible effectively. Students from all over India and various horizons every year take this examination to get themselves into some of the prestigious institutions linked through this. Eligibility Criteria

Students are requires to go through the following eligibility notions before applying for the examination.

Age Criteria:

  • Date of Birth: Candidates those born on or after 1st October 1993 are eligible for writing the JEE Main examination.
  • Relaxation: 5 years relaxation shall be provided in the upper age limit of SC/ST & PWD candidates (i.e. DOB falls on or after 1st October 1988).
  • Date of Birth will be considered as mentioned in secondary education board certificate.

Qualification Criteria:

  • Qualifying Exam: It is must for the candidates to pass the 12th examination/qualifying examination with 5 subjects to be eligible for JEE Main 2018.
  • Subjects: The qualifying examination must be passed/appearing with Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics subjects.
  • No Minimum Marks: There is no minimum marks requirement in 12th examination for writing the JEE Main exam. However, candidates have to secure the passing marks.
  • Passing Year: Those who have appeared and passed the higher secondary examination in 2016 and 2017 are also eligible to apply. Moreover, candidates appearing the final examination of 12th in 2018 can also fill the JEE Main application form.
  • In case if candidate appeared the 12th examination in 2015 but not passed in 2015, passed in 2016 are also not eligible.
  • Diploma Holders: Diploma holders may also apply for JEE Main 2018 but only eligible for admission to IITs. In other words, Diploma holders will be eligible for JEE Main so that they can further apply for JEE Advanced but not eligible for admission on the basis of JEE Main scores.

Number of Attempts:

Total 3 attempts will be given for clearing the JEE Main. Attempts will be counted from the year 2017 onwards. JEE Advanced can be attempted maximum 2 times in consecutive years.

Eligibility For Admission in IITs, NITs, CFTIs:

Percentage Marks: To be eligible for admission in IITs, NITs, CFTIs, candidates should have obtained 75% marks in 12th examination or must be in the top 20 percentile in the 12th examination of respective boards. The qualifying marks for SC/ST will be 65%.

This is the fee structure that each student has to select accordingly and pay. Apart from this the options available for payment include, net banking, credit/debit card or by e-challan. The students wishing to pay through e-challan must make it in any of the three banks designated by the authorities i.e. Syndicate, Canara, ICICI or HDFC Bank.

Reservation

The category wise reservation of seats is as stated below:

Besides the general reservation, there is 5% reservation for women in every college. NIT’s also possess 50% each of home state and other state quota. Furthermore there are also quotas available for defense personnel, local and non-local candidates. Apart from all this it is required that candidates must possess necessary documents or certificates that are necessary to claim reservation at the time of counseling.

Pattern

Here are the details for pattern and subject wise marks for both the papers.

Paper I

Courses: This is held for engineering courses i.e. B.E./B.Tech.
Number: The total numbers of questions are 90 objective questions.
Subjects: The paper will comprise of questions from Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics.
Language: Students can select their language preference either Hindi or English while filling the application form itself.
Mode: It will be both online and offline.
Time: 3 hours but for Pwd it is 4 hours.
Marking Criteria: 4 marks will be awarded for each correct answer.
Negative Marking: 1 mark for each wrong answer.

Paper II

Time: 3 hours but for Pwd it is 4 hours.
